Treating Hypertrichosis
Diffuse alopecia which is a sub-division of alopecia leads to hair loss throughout the scalp while focal alopecia leads to hair loss or bald spots in certain areas. Dermatologists try to analyze if the scarring or non-scarring process has taken place before starting treatment. In alopecias that scar, inflammation within the scalp leads to damage of hair follicles. Usually, treatment is provided to prevent further hair loss as areas of the already affected scalp are unlikely to demonstrate major re-growth. There is hope for patients with non-scarring alopecia because the hair follicles still exist and treatment can be offered for re-growth of lost hair.
