Osteoporosis & Metabolic Bone Disease
Osteoporosis is a ‘silent’ metabolic bone disorder in which the tissue of the bone breaks down, making bone become increasingly fragile, leading to an increasing risk of fracture. There are no warning signs or symptoms until fractures occur. Also known as osteopenia which refers to low bone density can affect people of all ages. Loss of bone during adolescence and early adulthood can be an outcome of inability to achieve good bone mineral density, and speeded bone loss may be mostly recorded around menopause and in later years.
Several factors, including diet and the lack of proper exercise, result in bone loss during these periods. It can also happen as a consequence of many underlying conditions, many of which are often not readily visible or felt during the course of a doctor visit.
Sunshine's team of Orthopaedicians and surgeons are specialised in treating cases of osteoporosis. We are well equipped to detect and treat bone loss in its earliest stage; Sunshine's team of doctors hold the required expertise for the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. Also, we use sophisticated technology such as DXA for bone densitometry while treating Osteoporosis.
Please note that people receiving treatment by either lifestyle or/and pharmaceutical are at 50% lesser risk of getting fractures as against those who don't receive any treatment.
- Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD)
- MBD is a broad term for bone abnormalities caused by different disorders. Common disorders include abnormalities of minerals such as calcium, phosphorus, magnesium or vitamin D leading to clinical disorders.
- Luckily, these disorders are reversible upon right diagnosis. Sunshine's comprehensive diagnosis ensures effective treatment of MBD.
