Surgery and After
Surgery
On the day of the surgery, a member of the surgical team will manage and oversee all the pre-operative tests recommended by the operating surgeon. The nurse designated for your care will help you finish all formalities that the surgery might require. You will then be taken into the operating room on a stretcher or a wheelchair, or can simply walk in – subject to patient’s health and the surgeon’s requests.
As soon as you enter the operating room, the surgeon and accompanying team supported by the anesthesiologist will move you onto the operating table and begin preparing for the procedure. The mood during the operation will generally be quiet and serene in a clean, bright environment that houses the most advanced of equipment.
After Surgery
On completion of the surgery, you will be taken either to the recovery room or to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU). Your operating surgeon will go to the waiting area to meet and notify your family and friends and make them understand your condition. The surgeon will also inform from when you can receive visitors.
If you are undergoing Ambulatory surgery you will be kept in the recovery room until the effects of anesthesia have subsided and you’ve sufficiently recovered and are able to take in some liquids. During this time, your doctors or nurses will take you through the medications to be taken, diet restrictions, or the limits on the amount of physical activity you must follow. A follow-up appointment may be scheduled, and usually a member of the operating team will call and follow up on your condition.
